About the role

Interested in joining a start-up? We’re scaling fast at Zip (YC S2020)! Zip is tackling the $50B+TAM space to transform the way businesses manage spend. We started Zip because we saw the challenges companies had using outdated 20 year old software to manage hundreds of millions of dollars every year. We are a small but mighty team that helped scale category-defining companies like Airbnb, Facebook, Salesforce, Apple, Quora, Pinterest, and Square.

We graduated from YC as part of the S20 batch. We’ve since raised $37m from YC, YC Continuity and a select group of strategic B2B SaaS angels, including the cofounders of Looker (sold to Google for $2.6b), Mixpanel, and Algolia. We’re growing quickly and need your help: we launched in early 2020 and are growing by 40+% every month.

Your Role

As the first content marketing and communications hire, you will be responsible for building Zip’s content organization from the ground up. Do you love championing the voice of the customer? We are looking for a self-driven, resourceful, and storytelling-oriented content marketer who also loves building and owning communication strategies. The ideal candidate for this position is someone who is not afraid to roll up their sleeves and work as an individual contributor and has the experience and aptitude to drive content marketing strategy and build a high-performing communications department. This role reports to the Head of Marketing.

You Will

  • Map out a content strategy that supports and extends marketing initiatives, both short- and long-term, determining which methods work for the brand and why;. continuous evolution of strategy is a must
  • Produce high-quality articles, whitepapers, blogs, press releases, email marketing messages, case studies, presentation content, survey reports, and web copy
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and customer challenges in order to build a more effective editorial calendar
  • Work closely with senior leaders, marketing teammates, and other departments to create effective communications strategies that articulate Zip’s core benefits properly and consistently
  • Craft interesting, well-researched content to drive traffic, engage and convert target customers, and improve shared content across Zip’s owned channels
  • Create and maintain relationships with key business and trade media that can lead to increased visibility for the company, its key initiatives, and campaigns in-market
  • Lead public-facing company announcements and product launches
  • Clear articulation of the business goal behind the creation of a piece (or series) of content
  • Build a communications and content team that is the envy of our industry; train your team to ensure excellence in process, tools, and tactics

Qualifications

  • 5-8+ years experience in content and communications/PR roles
  • Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, public relations, or a related communications field
  • Must be able to respond quickly in an environment of changing priorities
  • Editorial mindset that seeks to understand what audiences consume and how to create it
  • Experience with web content management systems, HTML, Marketo, and Adobe Creative Cloud are a plus
  • Experience managing content and PR agencies and working closely with creative teams
  • High comfort level communicating with various stakeholders across marketing, sales, customer success, and product
  • Ability to work with executive and senior management; excellent negotiation, influencing, and presentation skills
  • A deep understanding of the procurement space is a plus
  • Deadline-driven mindset with ability to manage multiple projects on your own
  • Previous management experience is a plus
