About the role

Please apply here: https://apply.workable.com/gridware/j/B646CE3278/

Gridware is on a mission to create a future without deadly wildfires. We’re a startup building hardware and software that monitors the power grid to prevent and detect faults that lead to wildfire ignition. (More about Gridware below).

To make that happen, we’re currently looking for a senior backend engineer to join our growing team.

Why do we need you?

We’re at an exciting point where we’re manufacturing and deploying our first fleet of power grid monitoring devices to customers and, as an early team member, you will have the opportunity to set the foundation for at-edge operational systems that monitor US-America’s power-grid. The systems that you build will be able to catch faulty power equipment, identify anomalies like vegetation contact, and dispatch the appropriate resources to stop the next big blaze. You’ll collaborate with enthusiastic, collaborative, mission-driven individuals by bringing your curiosity, creativity and technical skills to the table.

This is what you’ll be doing:

  • Construct data exfiltration pipelines for our fleet of field devices and high frequency research sensors
  • Implement highly-available data warehousing with intuitive APIs and efficient query infrastructure
  • Create monitoring and control software that flag issues with the power grid in real-time and enable operators to dispatch the appropriate resources needed to fix them
  • Design intuitive access patterns that enable our data science teams to run analysis on collected data
  • Deploy new and existing cloud infrastructure that scales with our growing customer-base
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with our data scientists, full-stack engineers, and embedded software engineers to super-charge their workflows

Required Skills

To move forward in the application process you should have at least all of these:

  • Strong proficiency in one or more backend web frameworks
  • Ability in constructing scalable ETL pipelines, data warehouses, and APIs
  • Comfortable developing on UNIX with an understanding of networking, filesystems, and scripting
  • Knowledge of version control, automated deployments, testing pipelines, and container configuration
  • Familiarity with cloud hosting providers such as AWS, GCP, Azure
  • 4+ years of professional software engineering experience

Bonus Skills

Your application will have a higher chance of standing out, if you have one (or more) of the following skills or experiences. If you, however, have all of the required skills but none of the bonus skills we still encourage you to apply.

  • Production Python development experience
  • Familiarity with cloud-architecture to support distributed, low-power devices
  • Has built real-time systems using publisher subscriber models

Although we do not require candidates to submit a cover letter, candidates who wish to have their application stand out are invited to write a cover letter outlining one or all of the following things in a bullet-point format:

  • Where you have acquired the required skills
  • Which (if any) of the bonus skills you have and where you acquired them
  • Why you are interested in this role

We offer competitive benefits that help employees to thrive and grow. These benefits include:

  • An attractive salary with bonus plan

  • Health insurance

  • Work/Life Balance (flexible working hours, 9 working days every 2 weeks, etc.)

  • Stock option plan

  • 2 Weeks of paid vacation (in addition to PTO)
