About the role

WHY WE'RE LOOKING FOR YOU

Retool is continuing to grow quickly, and to support our recruiting and onboarding work, we need someone dedicated to candidate and new hire experience. We’ve crafted an extremely candidate-centric interview process and we’re looking for someone who’s just as excited about our candidates to join the team.

As Retool has grown, so has our candidate and new employee volume. It’s important to us to continue to help candidates navigate our interview process through a human lens by providing excellent communication, support, and logistics. The journey continues, though, after a candidate transitions to soon-to-be employee, so you’ll also drive their onboarding process.

We’re looking for someone who is laser-focused on the details, enjoys working with candidates and new employees alike, and is excited to build new processes from scratch while iterating on others that we’ve built v1 (and maybe v2!) of.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

You’ll be our go-to guru for all things logistics, from scheduling interviews and debriefs, to managing new hire equipment needs and organizing logistics for getting our new employees up to speed with our onboarding week.

On any given day, you’ll work with candidates, hiring managers, recruiters, our company’s leadership, and current employees. Your days will vary between working calendar magic to squeeze in a last-minute interview and making sure FedEx has picked up your latest shipment of new hire laptops and supplies. You’ll also build new processes that serve our candidates and employees, while also focusing on longer-term projects including programs, training, and recruiting-team-specific work.

Excellent communication is key in this role, and you’ll be doing a lot of it! We’ll look to you to communicate effectively, quickly, and in a very Retool-brand (i.e. friendly) way with all stakeholders and candidates alike. In fact, new employees will also look to you to set the tone for their first week and you'll be the first point of contact for many!

WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH

The broader team at Retool is smart, dedicated, internally motivated, and kind. We believe wholeheartedly that Retool is not only changing the way internal tools are built, but how software is developed. We’re also an interesting bunch coming from our own startups, large enterprise companies, and all kinds of industries.

You’ll be joining a recruiting team who cares deeply about our candidates, pushes ourselves to deliver incredible experiences, and is passionate about building a world-class team at Retool. We like to iterate on processes, talk about our plants, and make sure everyone has a voice. We also can’t wait to be back in the office—we hope to see you there!

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Own candidate interview logistics, from calendar coordination to onsite interview guides and day-of troubleshooting
  • Own coordination of post-interview activities, including candidate debriefs and sending candidate feedback surveys
  • Create and share candidate prep materials
  • Own new hire onboarding: including new hire equipment;  onboarding into Rippling, our HRIS; and coordination of our week-long onboarding process
  • Spend 10% of your time on office management activities until we return to the office and we hire a full-time office manager
  • Partner with other recruiting team members to build new or iterate on old processes
  • Keep an eye out for inefficiencies or areas of opportunity and tackle them in stride
  • Communicate verbally and in written format with great attention to detail and clarity
  • Occasionally lend support to the recruiting team through the lens of sourcing or other value-add activities if this is something you’re interested in
  • Attend and occasionally lead weekly recruiting team meetings—they’re really fun

THE SKILLSET YOU'LL BRING:

  • 6+ months of professional experience in a people-led function; bonus points for past recruiting coordination work
  • Ability to communicate clearly with varying degrees of stakeholders
  • Excellent attention to detail, i.e. you rarely have to do the same work twice
  • Ability to troubleshoot on the fly and can unblock yourself
  • Ability to own and work across several different workstreams without missing a beat

Retool is a fast way of building internal tools through our low-code drag-and-drop platform. We were founded in 2017 and graduated from YC the same year. Our Series A was led by Sequoia and we're backed by Daniel Gross (whose company is right upstairs from us!), John and Patrick Collison of Stripe, and Elad Gil, among others.

Why you should join Retool

Retool's a fast way of building internal tools (to manage deliveries, for customer support, etc.). We just hit profitability, have raised money from some great investors, including John + Patrick Collison (Stripe), Elad Gil (Color), Nat Friedman (Github), Greg Brockman (OpenAI), etc. We're looking to scale our engineering team from 15 people to around 25 this year.

Our thesis is that all internal tools have the same building blocks (tables, textinputs, dropdowns, etc.). So Retool gives you those building blocks, which you can combine and compose to make any sort of internal tool you might want. That's a lot faster than writing the same custom code, over and over again. Here's a 3 minute demo.

Our actual goal - though - is to build the future of programming. We think building boring, internal enterprise apps represents most of programming. And if you can make building these boring things a lot faster, you have a good shot at becoming what "comes after programming languages".
