About the role

Snapdocs is a rapidly growing company backed by investors like Sequoia, Y Combinator, F-Prime and Tiger Global. We're an innovative team taking on the extensive mortgage market, bringing scalable and sophisticated software to a pillar of the US economy that still relies on fax machines and manila envelopes.

The type of problems we focus on involves workflow, product design, and data. We are working to find a good authentication pattern that allows for people to work across companies in multiple roles (which is trickier than you might think!). Domain Driven Design is our guiding light. Now we’re looking for a servant-leader type Engineering Manager that has transitioned in recent years from contributing code on the daily to a focus on people, velocity, & execution. That’s where you come in...

As the leader for our Core Services team, you’ll spend 90% of your time managing and about 10% in the code yourself (think debugging, code reviews, architecting distributed systems etc). Your team will consist of 8 back end engineers initially with the goal to grow over time. You will drive attraction, growth, and retention of top talent by working closely with the recruiting team. This team produces features, fixes bugs, and triages security concerns all in service of our Lender type of customers so think high impact and high transparency. Fully responsible for delivering enterprise software, you’ll grow the capabilities of the team through coaching, mentoring and direct feedback. We are an agile scrum shop big on continuous improvement so expect to be running sprint planning meetings, stand-ups, retros & post mortems. Collaborating closely with key team members, you’ll help drive innovation and establish best practices across the organization.

During your IC engineering days (5+ years) you gained experience to build a service-oriented architecture that powered internal and external products. During that time you worked with at least some of our stack (Ruby on Rails, GO, React.Js, AWS, Kubernetes, Docker) building back end services, APIs & scaling solutions. You might have picked up proficiency in a few different languages (Java, Scala, Python or the others) and programming styles (functional, object-oriented, script/procedural or big data). These days (the past 2 years or so) you can be found coaching, mentoring, performance monitoring, managing scope, reviewing code, making architectural & technical decisions to drive the SDLC. You lead from within and understand that coaching and mentoring is almost always better than “managing” (but you know how and when to do that too).

Colorado applicants: This role pays $163,000 - $189,000 annually plus equity in the company (pay for other locations may vary).

Why you should join Snapdocs

Snapdocs powers homeownership. Using technology, we’re building the connective tissue for an entire pillar of the U.S. economy: residential real estate.

Today, we’re working to perfect mortgage closings, but that’s only the beginning. If we succeed, more than five million families per year will gain clarity and transparency as they make the biggest financial decision of their lives: buying a home. Before Snapdocs, no one felt responsible or empowered to solve the problems we face every day we come to the office.

It's complex and difficult work, and the result is not an app we brag about at tech industry parties. Instead, we're making a difference and carefully building a team that shares our priorities—pragmatism, respect and empathy for our clients, and building honest products that improve all our users’ lives.
