RF Test Engineer

In this role you will design, implement, and execute automated testing or characterization of radio subsystems. You will work with hardware designers and other payload engineers to derive test requirements, validate designs over voltage/temperature, and write test software required to facilitate hardware bring up and qualification testing. You will also be validating and characterizing payload performance throughout the spacecraft assembly, integration, and test flow.

Role:

  • Functional testing of new custom Astranis radio subsystems (frequency converters, amplifiers, modems, data converters, etc)
  • Performance characterization and calibration of custom Astranis radio subsystems (calibrate gain, nonlinearity, flatness, phase noise, frequency drift over temperature, emissions compliance, etc)
  • Own testing of integrated radio system for system level metrics like EVM, BER, link acquisition time, etc
  • Procure, setup, and automate new test equipment (network analyzers, signal generators, oscilloscopes, RF loads, etc)
  • Build up test benches, test racks, and design PCBs for test
  • Develop and maintain test automation code in Python
  • Assist in recruiting, interviewing, and hiring additional teammates to our rapidly-growing team.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in EE, CS (or equivalent background knowledge)
  • Experience working with RF test equipment (network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, etc)
  • Experience with Python (or other high-level scripting languages)
  • Experience in test automation
  • Experience designing PCBs using Altium or similar
  • 2+ years of experience working in a hardware environment

Bonus:

  • 2+ years of experience testing communications or sensing hardware (digital radio, radar, sonar, lidar, etc)
  • Strong grasp of digital communications concepts
  • Experience with bash/tcl (or similar shell-level scripting languages)
  • Strong proficiency with Linux and command-line tooling
  • Enjoy writing robust code
  • Enjoy root causing issues and problem solving
