Chemical Process Engineer (Titan Fuel Forge Development) The Titan Fuel Forge is Prometheus’ revolutionary fuel-production system. It works on the concept of reverse combustion, capturing CO2 and water from the air and powering them with electricity from renewable energy to make zero net carbon fuels. As a member of the Titan Fuel Forge development team, you will be focused on the development and implementation of the next generation of Titan Fuel Forge systems. These include the Carbon Salvage direct air capture (DAC) system, where CO2 and water are captured from the air; the Faraday Reactor, where CO2 and water are combined with power; and the Recombination fuel extraction and upgrading system, where electrochemical products are converted into finished fuels. You will focus on integration of these subsystems, optimizing their interfaces and identifying overall optimum operating conditions that may not be apparent if focusing on only a single subsystem.
Requirements ● Bachelor’s degree or higher in chemical engineering or similar technical degree with 3-10 years chemical engineering experience
Responsibilities ● Apply chemical engineering fundamentals to optimize integrated process unit operations ● Implement improvements iteratively through process experimentation, data collection, and analysis ● Build and contribute to models of capital and operating costs of systems and components ● Exercise excellent communication skills across teams ● Willing to work across a broad range of activities to support team goals – growth-stage startups require a wide range of skills ● Ability to work independently or in a team ● Contribute to a positive culture of collaborative experimentation and innovation
Other Experience/Qualification Pluses ● Mastery of process modeling, including mass and energy balances, PFDs, and P&IDs ● Expertise at process simulation with CHEMCAD, Aspen Plus, or Hysys ● Adept at prioritizing tasks and executing multiple assignments concurrently in a rapidly changing environment that requires mental flexibility, creativity, discipline, and resilience ● Previous membrane system, electrochemical system, and reactor design and operation experience strongly prioritized
Location of position is our 20,000 square foot prototyping and manufacturing facility in Santa Cruz, CA, less than one mile from the beach, in a walkable neighborhood with coffee shops, natural groceries, yoga studios, etc. – you don’t have to surf, hike, camp, or like perfect weather, but our location is a plus if you do. Must be on-site, but work from home for appropriate tasks is available.
