Culture makes it easier to scale-up and manufacture products using biology. We’re looking for a Head of Human Resources who will be an empathetic, pro-active leader of our HR function. This is a manager-level position with an opportunity to grow in a Director or VP level role in the next 12-24 months.

What you will do:
Develop and implement learning & development programs for employees across the company with a particular focus on employees that contribute to our core operations that serve customers. Develop analytics & feedback mechanisms to track the status & progress of our HR processes, including DE&I, onboarding, training, satisfaction at work, and internal communications. Collaborate with the founders to run bottoms-up processes to craft our values, mission, and, critically, processes that reinforce them. Own all the core HR needs & operations at the business: HR policies, compensation, career ladders, payroll, and performance reviews. Provide situational coaching and assistance in response to real-time HR needs for the business. Inspire and manage a small HR team, including at least one full-time HR Business Partner. Develop & implement training programs for managers and leaders at Culture.

About you:
You’re excited to lead the HR function at a fast-moving start-up. You’re passionate, or at least curious, about how biomanufacturing can make an impact on climate change, human health, food systems, and materials. You’re an empathetic, self-reflective leader, able to communicate and understand a diverse group of employees. You should feel comfortable owning the full set of HR responsibilities for our business. You have some experience developing, implementing, or executing learning & development programs and you’re excited to lead L&D programs as a core part of your next role. You have at least 7 years of experience working in HR and have experience managing reports.
Location & Schedule:
This is a remote-flexible position. We’re looking for someone based in the San Francisco Bay Area who is able to work in person at our office in South San Francisco at least 2-3 days per week.

Our customers genetically modify organisms to produce new therapeutics, materials, fuels and foods. We help them quickly run experiments and develop manufacturing processes so they can get their products to market faster. We've built proprietary software and automation systems to make operating our bioreactors more efficient than existing systems.
