WHY WE'RE LOOKING FOR YOU
Retool is scaling quickly, essentially doubling headcount since the beginning of 2021. To support this growth and help us achieve our long-term vision to change the way software is built, we are now laying the foundation for a world-class Finance and Accounting team. This team will serve as Retool’s “source of truth”, developing high-integrity financials that provide visibility into business performance, delivering insights that drive strategic decisions, and establishing operational rigor so we effectively manage our cash and risk. As our first accounting leader, this role will be essential in helping us build and scale this capability.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
As controller, you will lead our accounting function, streamlining our budgeting, payroll, and financial reporting processes. You’ll also be responsible for defining and implementing GAAP-compliant accounting policies and overseeing our annual audit. You and your team will also be expected to produce thorough financial reports that provide visibility on business performance to executives, as well as the board. Finally, we will look to you to build a best-in-class accounting team that can help Retool scale effectively. Note that Retool is still very much in start-up mode and you’ll be expected to act as a player-coach, rolling up your sleeves wherever necessary to help us meet the needs of our growing business.
WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH
Reporting to the Head of Finance, you’ll join a small but growing Finance team that aspires to serve customers across the business with high-quality financial reporting and insights. You will also partner with teams across the business as we establish processes and the infrastructure required to scale.
IN THIS ROLE, YOU'LL:
THE SKILLSET YOU'LL BRING:
Retool is a Y Combinator-graduate backed by Sequoia Capital, as well as the founders of Github, Gusto, PagerDuty, Segment, and Stripe. Located in the heart of Hayes Valley, San Francisco, we build tools that delight our customers, empower businesses to run more effectively, and keep engineering teams happy.
Interested in what we're doing? We'd love to hear from you!
Retool's a fast way of building internal tools (to manage deliveries, for customer support, etc.). We just hit profitability, have raised money from some great investors, including John + Patrick Collison (Stripe), Elad Gil (Color), Nat Friedman (Github), Greg Brockman (OpenAI), etc. We're looking to scale our engineering team from 15 people to around 25 this year.
Our thesis is that all internal tools have the same building blocks (tables, textinputs, dropdowns, etc.). So Retool gives you those building blocks, which you can combine and compose to make any sort of internal tool you might want. That's a lot faster than writing the same custom code, over and over again. Here's a 3 minute demo.
Our actual goal - though - is to build the future of programming. We think building boring, internal enterprise apps represents most of programming. And if you can make building these boring things a lot faster, you have a good shot at becoming what "comes after programming languages".
