Blythe Masters is Board Chair of Komen Greater NYC, the Greater New York City Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.  Komen for the Cure is an organization that offers support and help to those of us touched by breast cancer.

“Today, Komen for the Cure is the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Thanks to events like the Komen Race for the Cure®, we have invested over $1.5 billion to fulfill our promise, becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.”

“In 2010, Komen Greater NYC awarded a record-breaking $4.3 million in grants. Over $2.8 million supported 37 community-based organizations that provide breast health programs to underserved women. Three area hospitals received a total of $242,493 to increase the capacity of local researchers to enroll women in breast cancer trials. $40,000 in grants were made available for local breast cancer conferences and education programs. Finally, Komen Greater NYC provided over $1.2 million for national peer-reviewed research programs.”

On this page, Blythe writes about her commitment to Komen:  “I am deeply committed to this cause not only because my mother, thankfully, is a survivor but because breast cancer, unlike many other diseases, has a viable chance for a cure in our lifetimes and can be successfully treated if caught early. It is also a disease which disproportionately harms the underserved in our communities.”
